Actor Will Arnett, who played Gob Bluth in Arrested Development, and Amy Poehler, of Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation fame, have finalized their divorce. Though the couple separated nearly four years ago, they had not completely finished the process of divorcing until recently.
The couple was married for nine years and had two sons together. They have decided to share custody of the two boys, who are seven and five. In the agreement, neither side will get spousal support. Poehler got candid about the divorce process in her memoir, saying, "Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air. The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands."
If you're going through a divorce, that statement probably sounds sadly familiar. Cases of high asset divorce like Poehler and Arnett's can be especially heart-wrenching: you're in the public spotlight and you've got considerable assets to divide. In some cases, one spouse will even try to hide assets or give big ticket items away just to make sure they don't end up in their ex's hands.
An attorney can be of invaluable help during a high asset divorce. He or she knows how to uncover hidden accounts, manage publicity and help you get through the process with your sanity intact. A divorce is not something you want to go through alone, there are going to be stressful times and the right attorney may be able to guide you through the entire process.
