Michigan residents who are considering divorcing their spouses likely all share similar concerns. Most worry about the division of their marital property, such as the family home, the length of time the divorce process will take and arrangements concerning child custody, visitation and support. When celebrities divorce, their concerns are no different. However, the stakes of their divorces are often much higher than those of average couples.
Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician Stevie Wonder filed for divorce from his second wife approximately three years ago. The couple, who married nearly 15 years ago, separated more than five years ago, and they have just now reached an agreement to the terms of their divorce. Their divorce has now been finalized by a court in another state.
According to the terms of the divorce, the couple will share custody of their two children. However, even though they are sharing custody, reports indicate that Wonder will be required to pay his ex-wife $25,000 each month for child support. No information was available concerning the division of the couple's marital property or whether the former Mrs. Wonder will be receiving spousal support or alimony.
Fortunately for most divorcing couples in Michigan, the divorce process will not take three years or more. However, high-asset divorces that involve the division of valuable assets and multiple properties may take years to finalize without the help of an experienced attorney. Michigan residents who have a lot at stake may benefit from the assistance of a family law attorney who has experience in complex divorces.
